Cowhide Care
If you are curious on how to properly take care of your new cowhide, you've come to the right place!
Feel free to print this page to keep it handy!
- First off - Shake, Shake, Shake! Shaking out your cowhide is an efficient way to remove dust, debris, and allergens. It's best to do this outside - rotating as you shake.
- Vacuum on a low setting starting from the center and working your way outwards. Remember to vacuum with the hair, not against. As you get to the outer edges, make sure not to get the ends caught in the roller of the vacuum. Overtime, this can cause the ends to curl and become a trip hazard.
- A damp wash cloth or sponge will work wonders to get up spills, pet accidents, & dirt/mud.
- Oil/Grease stain? Eucalyptus oil! Dab some on a cotton ball or washcloth and carefully rub on area. Follow with a damp sponge to clean remnants.
- Our hides are professionally tanned using high quality chemicals and materials, it is important not to use cleaning products with harsh ingredients as it can turn the hide a funky color. For set-in stains, use mild soap such as Dawn.
- Putting your cowhide in the washing machine is not recommended! (Please, please don't do this!) It can cause damage such as curling, warping, and stiffness. These are beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that can be easily cleaned and cared for.
- Lastly, if your hide is kept in a high traffic area, make sure to rotate it periodically. This will prevent balding, curling, divots, and wear/tear on your stunning piece!
